I'm a SLIP newbie trying to get set-up, running under Windows 3.1, using
Trumpet Winsock 1.0 Rev. A, Eudora 1.4 & WinQVT/Net 3.96.

I edited the HOSTS file to put the IP and Internet addresses for my
SLIP host, which is also my POP server, as the only entry:

    198.64.6.7  sam.neosoft.com

As soon as I did that, I couldn't get my mail.  Eudora said that the POP
server was refusing my connection.  I remarked out the entry and now
everything works.

So, what did I do wrong, and why?  I have no idea.  I'm not even sure
what the function of a HOSTS file is (does it cut-out having to check the
name server?).  All I know is that the documentation for WinQVT said it
liked to have a HOSTS file (BTW, it seems to work just fine without it)

Hi, I am trying StarNet's Xwin Demo 2.8.7, and I keep getting error like

unable to find any unmanaged screens
xmodmap:/home/smith.2/kliang/.Xmodmap:39:  bad keycode value (out

xmodmap:  10 errors encountered, aborting

Does anyone know is this the limitation of the demo or a bug of the current

Thanks, I'll try that.  BTW, how did you know the IP address for
sam.neosoft.com (yet another newbie question)?

   Works fine for me, but I have to specify the IP number each time as bootp
doesn't seem to work.  I am using Trumpet Winsock 1.0 rev B. beta 6 and the
same EtherPPP.  Be sure you set the vectors the same (I use 60), and also
modify the MTU, and all that to reflect a modem connection.

Subject: Eudora windows too small!

I have alittle annoying quirk running Eudora 2.01:  When ever I open a message
box, it's too small.  Which means I have to widen the box every time I read a
message or send a message.  Does anyone know how to save the default window
sizes?

Does anyone has experience with Winsock development packages?
I am using LWP stack. Shall I buy the development kit from Novell?
If not, what would you suggest?

I tried out the evaluation version of GCP (an object-oriented Winsock
wrapper), but the UDP stuff (which I intend to use most) didn't work.

Subject: Seemingly random XWINDEMO crashes....

Hello all.  I am just wondering if anyone else is experiencing random
GPF's with XWINDEMO... I just downloaded it today, after what seems
to have been MANY recommendations, and I cannot get it to remain
running.

I am using Peter Tattam's Trumpet Winsock (the distribution release),
and running NO other Winsock-dependent programs with XWINDEMO.  My most
recent crash seems to be the same as the rest, but I wrote this one
down --

"MXWIN caused a General Protection Fault in module <unknown>3177:A305.
MXWIN will close."

ANY help will be appreciated, as I will seriously consider buying the
full version of this if I can keep it up and running.  Thanks a LOT in
advance.
